The Tanger Performing Arts Center is scheduled to be open in downtown Greensboro in 2019. The Greensboro Coliseum Complex is a multi-use facility with several buildings hosting large events, concerts, and sports teams, including the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic Baseball League. Jetsetters may access the nearby Piedmont Triad International Airport, which also provides employment for a number of Greensboro residents.

History
The first people occupying Greensboro were an indigenous people of the Cheraw tribe, and European Quaker settlers moved into the area around 1750. The city was named after Major General Nathanael Greene, who commanded the American forces at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781. The city was officially established in 1808 and by 1821, the town’s population reached 369. Greensboro saw major growth when it was included on a new railroad line, as textile mills and other businesses sprouted up throughout the region. Today, Greensboro is still a hub for regional train freight in addition to air travel, as the Piedmont Triad International Airport is located on the western edge of the city. The International Civil Rights Center and Museum located in downtown Greensboro was the site of the first sit-in movement that brought positive changes to civil rights in America. A few notable people and inventions hailed from Greensboro, including the famous American short story author William Sydney Porter, known by his pen name O. Henry. Additionally, Vick’s VapoRub was originally manufactured by a family-owned company based in Greensboro.
